Trains in Japan has always been an important transportation tool in Japan. Normally, the trains in Japan will be arriving the station in every 3 minutes, and they never be late. Since the taxi in Japan is rather expensive, travellers will also choose to take the trains to go anywhere in Japan. However, the train route is rather complicated and it is a suffer to have travellers that does not understand Japanese to understand them, especially in Tokyo. Other than that, there are some rules need to be obey while taking the train. Therefore, it is better that traveller could do a research on the train route before taking the trains in Japan, such as the type of the trains, the location to be reached and more.
While walking up or going down the stairs or escalator in the station, you will have to keep left to prevent blocking other people who needs to rush to other places. However, in Kansai area you will need to stay at the right side. Trains in Japan will have a special place just for the ladies because during the peak hour, therefore ladies will have an advantage of having their own train compartment.
Japanese uses cards to pay for their train fees. The usage of Suica or Pasmo is available for top-ups and you can buy drinks from the vending machine as well. These cards can be brought from the ticket counter in every station in Japan. For students and senior citizens, they have a discount rate. If you are one of them, you can ask more information from the information counter in any of the station.
