Kendama is a small stick with a ball attached to it by a string. It slightly resembles paddle ball toy that is a popular toy in the United States. Kendama has been around since the Edo period, but due to the increase popularity of Japanese culture, it has been slowly becoming a popular street sport, not only in Japan, but also in other countries. There are often tournaments to see who can create the coolest tricks. Much like yo-yoing, there isn't really a limit on the kind of tricks that can be created.
This makes for an amazing souvenir for those interested in Japanese toys or street sports.
