One of the most famous foods in Japan is Ramen, despite it`s Chinese origin, Ramen is available everywhere and anywhere in Japan and Tokyo. But something that is slightly different in Ramen shops over your average restaurant is that most Ramen shops have ticket order machines. What does this mean you might be thinking, well due to the fact that Japan loves convenience over everything, ordering from a menu when you want something fast and simple can be seen as quite an annoyance. So how does Japan solve this? Well they invented the Ticket Order machine! Simply enter the shop, look at the items listed on the buttons, select what you want, pay and you are done. At this point onward you don`t need to say more than three words to the staff in the shop and you can get on with eating the delicious food presented to you.
Ichiran ramen, the shop shown in this video takes this a step further though. Since Ramen is for the most part extremely easy to customize to the patrons needs; ichiran puts a sheet of paper at the booth you sit at to allow you to ask for things such as: more noodles, spicier soup, egg to place in your soup, pickles and even a bowl of rice to go along with your food. (not that you will need it, due to the fact that ichiran`s ramen bowls are massive, but why not indulge yourself right?)
This system may feel a bit lonely to some people but it allows people to have an undisturbed experience when eating, which in a way is better. Plus I think this allows people in groups to focus on chatting with each other and having conversation instead of having to talk to a waiter every now and then.
If you are in Japan make sure that you try out one of these shops, see how quick and easy it is. I bet you will never want to go back to the original way of ordering!
