“Origami” is the art of folding a square paper into various shapes, such as animals or flowers. The artistry of origami, where beautiful sculptures are made from a single piece of paper, is highly acclaimed, and the number of people who enjoy origami have been increasing not only in Japan, but also in abroad. origami is able to be enjoyed by small children to adults, which makes it such an attractive to activity.
There is a kind of origami called “Modular origami.” Modular origami is an artform where to three dimensional shapes are build out of many smaller simple origami pieces. In this video, we learn how to make Origami earrings which are made out of a simple origami cube called the “Sonobe Cube.” This Sonobe cube was invented by “Mitsunobu Sonobe,” a member of Japanese Origami Association, in the 1960s.
To make these earrings, you will need: a pair of 1/16 sizes of Sonobe Cubes, a clear colored nail polish, a pair of eye-pins, a needle, a pair of fish hook earrings, a pair of jump rings, and your favorite beads or charms.
First, make a hole in the Sonobe cube with a needle, and put an eye-pin into the same hole. Paint the cubes with a nail polish to make the surface smooth. Leave the cube for a few hours to dry. String beads on both sides of the cubes, and finish by attaching the fish hook earrings. It’s that simple to make Origami earrings!
You could even make original earrings by using other charms, such as origami cranes. There are many kinds of colors and patterns of Japanese origami papers. Origami earrings would make a great gift for a special someone. They are really easy to make, and great for beginners, so why not try your hand at making handmade accessories by starting with origami earrings?
