Sendai Yagiyama Zoological Park located at top of Mt.Yagiyama, across the amusement park Benny Land. It opened in 15th October 1965 and has total 145 different species and 550 animals. There are 3 main class of animal which are mammal, bird and reptiles. Sendai Yagiyama Zoological Park not only has local species, but also has animals from other countries.
Although Sendai Yagiyama Zoological Park do not have any shows or performances, but there are a few interactive experiences. The Japanese macaque is completely unsupervised from feeding. There are vending machines selling biscuit type snacks at ¥100 to feed the monkey. Beyond the macaque feeding, tourists are able to feed and interact close with certain animals like elephants, hippopotamus and rabbits. The park route built in loops of circles, easily for the tourist to walk through the whole parks and see every animal.
The park has a couple small restaurants for tourists to fill their stomach at decent price. Apart from that, right next to both entrances there are gift shops with a large variety of omiyage and general gifts, especially of the fluffy, huggable variety stuffed animals. There is also has a statue of Babe Ruth located at the Africa area. There is an explanation for it, the land of park originally was baseball stadium and Babe Ruth hit his first home run on Japan soil.
