Published on 02.08.2016 Yokohama’s Chinatown is a sister town with Vancouver Chinatown in Canada. There are 620 shops, including 226 Chinese restaurants (as of June 2010). Today, we are introducing three restaurants from the Yokohama Chinatown.

Manchinro (Cantonese cuisine)
Manchinro has successfully been operated over 100 years since its initial opening in 1892. Currently, they operate at three locations in Yokohama Chinatown. This sophisticated restaurant understands the importance of food, and commits to serve MSG-free dishes to their customers. They strive to use natural ingredients to bring out the original flavor of Cantonese cuisine. You can enjoy a variety of dishes with seasonal ingredients here.

Shigoroku Saikan (Shanghainese cuisine)
The master chef at Shigoroku Saikan, Kangi Son was catapulted into fame by the popular Japanese TV series “Ryori no Tetsujin (Iron Chef)” in 1996. Kangi’s father, Eibu Son was the best pupil of Choin Ran who had been a personal chef for Chinese historical leader Chiang Kai-shek. Kangi follows his father’s tradition, and his technique of controlling the pan and fire is an orthodox Shanghai style cooking. He also works to develop contemporary cooking. Enjoy the combination of traditional and contemporary Shanghainese cuisine.

Dohatsu (Cantonese cuisine)

Dohatsu started their business as grilled food and dried food shop in the Meiji period. There is a little shop at the three-story main building, and you can get the traditional grilled food that the technique, sauce and spice have been taken over since its initiation. They have a Japanese style private dining room as well as table with homey atmosphere.

Before or after the delicious cuisine, one can shopping or walking around Chinatown. There are 10 Pai Lou Gates in Yokohama Chinatown. “Four tutelary gods” are located in East, South, West and North, and they are certainly sights worth seeing. You will be able to get some help from volunteer guides who can be found the town in the streets.
