An aerial view of Echizen Ono Castle, 'The Castle in the Sky', on a sunny day. Notice the beautiful Hakusan mountain range in the background!
Ever since Hayao Miyazaki released his film "Laputa: The Flying Island" Fukui prefecture's Echizen Ono Castle also took a leap into stardom. The reason for that is because when the city of Ono below is covered by fog, it just as if the castle is floating on top of a cloud! Unfortunately, this phenomenon only occurs just a few times between the months of November and April, so when i grabbed my drone and visited Ono Castle, there was not a cloud in the sky, and I wasn't able to film the castle floating in the sky. Instead, I was treated to clear views of the snow covered Hakusan mountain range, and the beautiful Ono castle sitting elegantly on the summit of the Kameyama Mountain.
