Even though I've lived in Japan for 3 years now, this is one of my first times to go to Yokohama's Chinatown. It was everything I expected and more. I really really really love food, especially Chinese food. So this was like a little slice of heaven for me. There are so many cheap and yummy places to grab a quick snack or a full course meal. You can easily spend quite a lot of time here, so if your traveling around the Yokohama area, make sure to give yourself enough time to explore. There are these really colorful and vibrant gates located allover the Chinatown area. It really gives you an interesting look at an area that has been effected by Japanese and Chinese culture.
Yokohama Chinatown (Yokohama Chukagai) is Japan's largest chinatown, located in central Yokohama. Yokohama Chinatown quickly developed, after the port of Yokohama had been one of the first Japanese ports to be opened to foreign trade in 1859. It became the residence of the many Chinese traders who settled down in the city. Great place to get a taste of China without leaving Japan.
