Fukuoka city is known for its beautiful beaches and industrial city complexes, however to support all that development and its population, the city has a thriving fishing industry with multiple fisheries and hundreds of people employed to bring the freshest catches of the day. Fishermen and women usually leave around dawn on their boats and come back at night with their hauls. Depending on the species of fish, and high tide or low tide conditions, the timing of the day in which fishing is carried out may be varied, but the fact remains that the waters of Fukuoka are plentiful with many types of fish and other aquatic animals. This allows the fisheries to offer a wide range of products to its customers, whether they be individuals who are visiting the fish market to get a fresh meat for their dinner or big businesses which deal in large quantities and need even larger amounts of fish. As the video shows, all the fish are packages and put up for display where the merchants call out the crowd to show their latest catch and offer prices, make bargains or offer discounts. All of this is done in markets such as the Nagahama fish market and under the authority of the local government to ensure quality and cleanliness.
