Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa is visited by many tourists throughout the year. Senso-ji Temple was built to admire the Goddess of Mercy in the year 645, making it the oldest Buddhist temple in Tokyo.
Its beautiful red color, and the big red lantern hanging at the gate known as “Kaminarimon” attracts many people. Behind Kaminarimon there is a shopping street called Nakamise. All kinds of Japanese souvenirs like kimono, folding fans, and chopsticks can be found there.
Outside of Senso-ji Temple, there are many rickshaws waiting for passengers. It is possible to have them take you on a tour around Asakusa, for a modest fee.
In addition to Senso-ji, there are many more shines and temples in Asakusa, as well as more shopping spots. Tokyo Skytree is also easily accessible from Asakusa via bus or train.
