Do you know that JR Hakata Station is the main station when you arrive in Kyushu via the Shinkansen? Besides that, do you that it is also considered as a gateway to other big cities such as Kumamoto, Kagoshima, Oita, Nagasaki and others in Kyushu for travelers traveling from the main island of Japan?
JR Hakata Station was opened on December 11, 1889 and then in December 1 ,1963 it was reconstructed in its present form that is raised above the street level, and in March 10, 1975 the Shinkansen service started.
Then in March 2011, the Hakata Station was rebuilt to coincide with the opening of the new Kyushu Shinkansen line, which connects Fukuoka to Kagoshima within an over and then west to Nagasaki.
Currently, the station serves many JR trains such as the Sanyo Shinkansen, the Kagoshima Main Line, and many more. Besides that, popular places for travelers such as the Tenjin Station, Canal City, Kushida Shrine, Fukuoka Tower, Fukuoka Dome and of course the yatais are all nearby.
And do you know that there are many business hotels around the station, so you do not need to worry about looking for accommodation that is far away from the station.
The JR Hakata Station is one of Fukuoka’s major shoping and entertainment areas where most travelers like me will definitely visit. Besides that, their local people also do visit there during the weekends.
I am sure that most travelers like you and me will pass by there if you’re in Fukuoka for a visit, and do remember to step out of the station to have a look at the station. Both the day and night view are pretty, and I can assure you that.
How to get there:
via Shinkansen from Tokyo or Osaka
via Kuko Line from Fukuoka Airport
