In this interview, Madoka Tokita, the president of Ashtanga yoga, offered us her thoughts about doing stand up paddle boarding and SUP yoga.
Madoka shared that Ishigaki Island offered her full of fascinating features that can only be found there.
This training of SUP yoga is ideal both for physical and mental aspects. Making poses on a board on water naturally stimulates the core of the body, cenesthesia to improve due to the constant conscious or subconscious need to keep balance. This activity also leads to keeping a mental balance. The sensation of wave motions directly penetrated into her body, the fragrant breeze, the music of the Mangrove forest, cow callings, songs of birds, the plop plop sound of water spreading through her body all bring comfort and peace of mind to her.
The Ishigaki Island has several spots where the river (Miyara Bay) communicates with the sea. Rowing and stretching, making yoga poses on the river, Madoka then can enjoy both SUP surfing and yoga on the sea too. Above all, the clarity of water in Ishigaki Island is amazing. Admiring beautiful fishes and coral reefs when doing SUP and yoga at the same time makes her heart and body swing.
