The 2011 earthquake off the Pacific coast of Touhoku, also known as the 2011 Touhoku earthquake or the 3/11 earthquake was the most powerful earthquake recorded to have hit Japan. Following the magnitude 9.0 earthquake were aftershocks, tsunami waves and nuclear accidents, which caused severe damages to infrastructure, environment and irreplaceable loss of human lives.
In this Vlog, RandomJapan shared his experience through the 3/11 earthquake. Since he lived near the train station, he initially thought the earthquake was just a train passing by. However, a few moments later when the earthquake got extreme, he ran over to the next room and heard from a Japanese girl that it was the biggest earthquake she had experienced in her life. RandomJapan's short whim of excitement was washed away by cruel news about the tsunami and the grave situation overall.
When the news about the Fukushima reactors was issued, RandomJapan was forced to go back the States. When the travel warning was lifted, he was able to return to Japan, but he still had suffer from stress due to numerous aftershocks.
Because of its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire and near the three major tectonic plate boundaries and Japan has to suffer from a long history earthquakes and tsunami. However, Japanese people still manage to rise back from the loss every time. Please continue to stay strong Japan. We wish to learn from you. We hope everyone will stay safe and sound during and after any disaster!
