An introductory video of artisans in Yokohama, Kanagawa.
This video introduces the artisans of traditional Japanese clothing.
The “kimono” is known in many countries as the Japanese national costume. It is a sumptuous article of clothing that is finely hand-made from cutting to sewing.
Using a single sheet of cloth called “tanmono”, the artisans decide how to arrange the patterns on finished product and sew the kimono by hand. Kimono are mostly sewn in a straight line. The artisans required a certain level of skill to sew straightly.
Nowadays at many sightseeing spots, you can rent and try on kimono. If you have a chance, you should try on one of the skillfully created kimonos.
