Akihabara is most famous for their "otaku" or nerd culture of anime, games, and computers. However, there is much more to 'Akiba' than just kawai anime characters, and computer parts. Another really interesting area to check out is the B1 Grand Prix Food Trucks near Akihabara Station.
'Yatai' or food stands are rather popular in Japan and are usually seen near parks or temples during festivals. They typically serve things like yakitori, ramen, or takoyaki (fried octopus balls).
Food trucks on the other hand are not nearly as popular in Japan, mostly due to the way transportation works in Japan. Trains are a much more popular mode of transportation and space is limited so areas to park and set up your food truck are few and far between.
The B-1 Grand Prix is a food truck area that borrows a little from foriegn food truck culture, but with traditional Japanese foods. There are foods like ramen, takoyaki, rice bowls, and so much more.
It is pretty easy to order as well, since they have a group of ticket vending machines in the middle area. So simply purchase a ticket for the desired food and bring it to the corresponding truck. There is also a map near the vending machines making it super easy to understand.
