Published on 12.25.2015 Tucked away in East Kyoto, lies Ginkakuji, a Zen temple dating back to the late 1400s. Modelled after his grandfather’s retirement villa turned Zen temple, was built by Ashikaga Yoshimasa, one of the shoguns of the time. While not actually silver, many people say it got its name more than a century later to contrast the Kinkakuji Temple (Golden Pavilion). I personally preferred Ginkakuji to Kinkakuji because there are other things at Ginkakuji while Kinkakuji only really has the Golden Pavilion.
